Artist In Residence: Anne Currier & George Hrycun

George and I have been married since 1979 and are both active, professional studio artists. My primary focus is sculpture, with ceramics as my main medium. Recently, I have begun incorporating photography and wood into my sculptural practice. George creates large-scale works on paper using graphite, colored pencil, and ink.

While we share many conceptual and artistic approaches, we have always maintained independent studios. For this residency, we are interested in collaborating on collaged images and drawings. Inspired by the Surrealists’ exquisite corpse method, we aim to merge our distinct visual identities to explore the creation of a “third thing” — a tertium quid: an unidentified element emerging from the interaction between two known entities.

As we begin this collaborative process in Amsterdam, we also look forward to engaging in dialogue with other artists in the N/M community — exchanging ideas about art, content, materials, and the act of making.
