Kunst Corso 2024-05-25

The Art Corso unites all forms of art and grows into a unique spectacle. The Art Corso is a footstep-driven parade with over 16 floats that brings art to the streets. With the Art Corso, we celebrate Amsterdam's vibrant arts and cultural sector and advocate for a livable and affordable city for everyone. Because what kind of city does Amsterdam want to be?

Saturday, May 25, 2024, starting at 1:00 PM. For the third year in a row, the Cultural Stelling van Amsterdam (CSA) presents a festive tribute to its city with the Amsterdam Art Corso, winding its way through Amsterdam. The Corso starts at 1:00 PM in Vondelpark and goes through Museumplein, Leidsestraat to Dam Square, Rozengracht, Haarlemmerplein, and ends with a finale at Stenen Hoofd!

Performance, visual arts, music, street theater, design:
Jette Kelholt, Bart Eysink Smeets, Origins Krien & Merante, Four Siblings Collective, Lucas Huikeshoven, Selby Gildemacher, Ruigoord & De Luchtbus, Snowapple,
Zo Prod, Wybe de Haan, Between Two Hands Collective, Ninamounah,
Pepijn de Kock, Mariana Penas Charrua, Maaike Fransen, Peter Zegveld & Terts Brinkhoff, Baque Flamingo, Fanfare van de Eerste Liefdesnacht, De Roode Bioscoop met Oscar Jan Hoogland.

4 stops and mini-festivals of half an hour.
Follow this long procession, like a rolling jewel through the city. Come to one of the four stop locations in the city where performances and musical performances take place, and we call on Amsterdammers to think and talk about more cultural free space in Amsterdam.

Zwaan-Kleef-Aan.
We also call on all CSA members and other creative Amsterdammers via an OPEN CALL to make a playful, quirky contribution and to join the festive procession on rickshaws, cargo bikes, or on foot! This way, everyone can participate, and the Corso becomes a good reflection of Amsterdam as a Creative City.

History

Originally the Nieuw en Meer complex was a weapons and ammunition depot of Defense. The first buildings date from 1918 and were part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam. Until the early eighties of the 20th century the site was in use of Defense. After the last conflict in 1962 in, at that time, ‘Dutch New Guinea’, the military stores fell into disuse.

On June 25, 1988, when Marco van Basten caused a collective ecstasy in the Netherlands, the buildings at Oude Haagseweg 51 at the outskirt of Amsterdam, were squatted by a group of artists an activists from the squat at Conradstraat 11.
