Mapping Memory: Nabuurs&VanDoorn’s Artistic Exploration at Nieuw en Meer For their residency at Nieuw en Meer, Nabuurs&VanDoorn will engage in a project that explores the intersection of art, memory, and mapping. Building on their decade-long practice, they will create a new work centered on a series of personal and universal mappings. The artists aim to map the Nieuw en Meer artist colony and its surrounding neighborhood, using both historical maps and new drawings inspired by their planned walks and encounters during their residency. By intervening with the maps—scratching away elements, reconfiguring city grids, and adding new color systems—they will create an evolving, associative interpretation of place and memory. This project blends traditional painting with performative exploration, questioning how art can organize and give meaning to our understanding of space, memory, and society.
